Located in the southeastern United States of America, Florida sits between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean and shares borders with the states of Georgia and Alabama to the north.
Florida is a vast state which holds some of the finest beaches in the U.S.
The 'sunshine stateš also boasts major American cities such as exciting Miami, family oriented Orlando, St. Petersburg, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach. Most of the state has a subtropical climate, especially the greater Miami area and the Florida Keys.
Here at Travel last Minute.ca we offer discounted flights and vacation packages all year long to sunny Florida - including Miami, Orlando, St.Petersburg & Fort Lauderdale.
Here is a more in depth description on these great sunny destinations in Florida...
Fort Lauderdale | Florida
A busy cruise ship port and home to an incredible number of private yachts, Fort Lauderdale has something to offer for everyone. With nightlife along its beach strip, mumerous bars, restaurants, and shops line the beach in a far more sophisticated setting than its spring break image. Highrise hotels built in the 1960s and 1970s dominate the beachstrip in an uncrowded manner.
Most people use the beach for sun tanning, children playing, and general relaxation. Wide sidewalks beside the beach and roads are popular with joggers and inline skaters. Short boat trips give photogenic views along the intra coastal waterway, where large homes, mansions, and manicured lawns line the water's edge.
Fort Lauderdale gives a convenient, worry free holiday, to people of all ages. Its proximity to Miami and West Palm Beach give the active vacationer many options for daytime sightseeing, shopping, attractions, and sports of all kinds. Visitors can head to Miamišs South Beach within a forty-minute drive, or be in the Florida Everglades in even less time.

Miami Beach | Florida
The beach strip along Ocean Boulvard is teeming with nightlife, outdoor restaurants, and cafes. Collins Avenue has seen boutique hotels renovated, and shops have reappeared in the previously empty storefronts. Art-Deco buildings, colourful neon, and pastel coloured paints have restored this area to its former glory. The choice of restaurants and nightlife is astounding, and young locals, in addition to tourists, flock here on the weekend.
The beach itself is extraordinarily wide, combed, and hard-packed. It is not a popular swimming beach, but rather a tanning and relaxation spot. Unlike the rest of Florida, there are some topless bathers in this distinctly un-family destination; North Miami Beach is more suitable for families. A heavy police presence gives tourists comfort, but the usual caution applies to walking at night, especially in the quieter side streets off the main drags.
Miami is a great weekend getaway, and perfect for those who love to stay up late, and sleep in until noon, while still enjoying this sophisticated and fashionable, cosmopolitan city.

Orlando | Florida
A myriad of theme park and attractions brings visitors to Walt Disney World parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Pleasure Island, Blizzard Beach, River Country, and Typhoon Lagoon) as well as Universal Studios, Wet n Wild, and Seaworld. There are many other museums, activities, and attractions for families.
Lake Buena Vista is the central location of the Disney Parks, and Disney hotels offer worry-free but generally expensive accommodations inside the Disney Parks. The newer All Star Disney resorts offer small, limited service accommodations at reasonable rates. A car rental is not required if you are staying at a Disney hotel.
Kissimmee is a suburban area just west of Lake Buena Vista, offering mostly low cost motor lodge accommodations. Much of this hotel stock was built in the 1970s, and a lot of it is very basic. A few stories high, most of this accommodation sports an outdoor rectangular pool (barely heated if you are lucky), a parking lot, and a very basic hotel room with an antique television. This is why many of the accommodations are rated two and three star.
The best way to narrow the choice is to consider your desired location. How much time youšll want to spend in Disney and the other area theme parks, how much you will actually use the hotel/resort facilities, and the quality level of the accommodation you are expecting.

St. Petersburg | Florida
St. Petersburg (St. Petes for short) is a chain of coastal islands linked with bridges, and form the St. Petešs/Clearwater area. A long-time favourite of Canadians, this area sports wide sandy beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Waters are calmer and warmer than those on the Atlantic side, but the beach is hard-packed, unlike most Caribbean beaches.
St. Petešs Beach is the busy centre of this area, bound on the bottom by the historic Don Cesar hotel, and by Treasure Island to the north. An older stock of hotels and motels are mixed in between larger resort hotels built in the 1960s and early 1970s. Mini golf, restaurants, and tourist attractions located throughout this area, make it especially popular for families. A car is a must in this area.
North of Treasure Island is Madeira Beach, Redington Shores, Indian Shores, and Indian Rocks all popular locations for highrise, beachfront, condominium complexes. Clearwater is another concentrated strip of older highrise hotels and motels situated on a white sandy beach. Busch Gardens, located outside of Tampa, is a theme park dedicated to African wildlife, complete with its share of thrilling rides and roller coasters.
